"Oh, where I live," said the little prince, "it is not very interesting. It is all so small. I have three volcanoes.

 

Two volcanoes are active and the other is extinct. But one never knows."

 

"One never knows." said the geographer.

 

"I have also a flower."

 

"We do not record flowers." said the geographer.

 

"Why is that? The flower is the most beautiful thing on my planet!"

 

"We do not record them," said the geographer, "because they are ephemeral."

 

"What does that mean- ephemeral'?"

 

"Geographies." said the geographer, "are the books which, of all books, are most concerned with matters of  consequence.

 

They never become old-fashioned.

 

It is very rarely that a mountain changes its position.

 

It is very rarely that an ocean empties itself of its waters. We write of eternal things."

 

"But extinct volcanoes may come to life again." the little prince interrupted.

 

"What does that mean - 'ephemeral'?"

 

"Whether volcanoes are extinct or alive, it comes to the same thing for us." said the geographer.

 

"The thing that matters to us is the mountain. It does not change."

 

"But what does that mean- 'ephemeral'?" repeated the little prince, who never in his life had let go of a question, once he had asked it.

 

"It means, 'which is in danger of speedy disappearance."

 

"Is my flower in danger of speedy disappearance?"

 

"Certainly it is."

 

"My fower is ephemeral," the little prince said to himself, "and she has only four thorns to defend herself against the world.

 

And I have left her on my planet, all alone!"

 

That was his first moment of regret. But he took courage once more.

 

"What place would you advise me to visit now?" he asked.

 

"The planet Earth." replied the geographer. "It has a good reputation."

 

And the little prince went away, thinking of his flower.

"오, 내가 사는 별곳은" 어린왕자가 말했습니다. "그다지 재미있지는 않아요. 아주 작고요. 세 개의 화산을 가지고 있어요

2개는 활화산이고 나무지 하나는 사화산입니다. 하지만 아무도 모르죠"

"아무도 모른다.." 지리학자가 말했습니다.

"꽃도 한송이 있어요"

"우리는 꽃을 기록하지는 않아" 지리학자가 말했다

"왜 그래요? 꽃은 내 행성에서 가장 아름다운 것인데..."

"우리는 그것들을 기록하지는 않아." 지리학자가 말했습니다. "왜냐하면 꽃은 수명이 짧거든."

"수명이 짧다는 것이 무슨 뜻입니까?"

"지리학은 말이지 " 지리학자가 말했습니다. "중요한 것에 관한 책이란다."

"하지만 죽은 화산이라도 다시 살아날지 몰라" 어린왕자가 말했다.

 

"What does that mean - 'ephemeral'?"

"수명이 짧다는 것이 무슨 뜻이야?

 

"Whether volcanoes are extinct or alive, it comes to the same thing for us." said the geographer.

"화산이 살아있든 죽었든, 우리에게는 똑같은 거야" 지리학자가 말했다. 

 

"The thing that matters to us is the mountain. It does not change."

"우리에게 중요한 것은 산이야. 그것은 변하지 않지"

 

"But what does that mean- 'ephemeral'?" repeated the little prince, who never in his life had let go of a question, once he had asked it.

"그런데, 수명이 짧다는 것은 무슨 뜻이야? " 어린왕자가 다시 물었습니다. 그는 절대 한번한 질문은 그냥 넘기지 않았습니다. 

"It means, 'which is in danger of speedy disappearance."

"그것은 갑자기 사라지는 위험에 있다는 뜻이야"

 

"Is my flower in danger of speedy disappearance?"

"내꽃이 갑자가 사라질 수 있다고?"

 

"Certainly it is."

"물론이지"

"내꽃은 수명이 짧다" 어린왕자가 혼잣말했다. "그 꽃은 자신을 방어하기 위해서 4개의 가시만 있을 뿐이야"

"그리고 나는 내 별에 그 꽃은 혼자 두고왔어"

그것은 어린 왕자의 첫번째 후회였다. 하지만 그는 다시한번 힘을 내었다.

"지금 어디에 방문해보면 좋을지 충고해줄래?" 어린왕자가 물었다.

"지구!" 지리학자가 말했다. "아주 평판이 좋거든"

 

And the little prince went away, thinking of his flower.

그리고 어린왕자는 자신의 꽃을 생각하면서 떠났다.
