When the little prince arrived on the Earth, he was very much surprised not to see any people.
He was beginning to be afraid he had come to the wrong planet,
when a coil of gold, the color of the moonlight, flashed across the sand.
"Good evening." said the little prince courteously.
"Good evening." said the snake.
"What planet is this on which I have come down?" asked the little prince.
"This is the Earth; this is Africa." the snake answered.
"Ah! Then there are no people on the Earth?"
"This is the desert. There are no people in the desert.
The Earth is large." said the snake.
The little prince sat down on a stone, and raised his eyes toward the sky.
"I wonder." he said, "whether the stars are set alight in heaven so that one day each one of us may find his own again...
Look at my planet. It is right there above us. But how far away it is!"
"It is beautiful." the snake said. "What has brought you here?"
"I have been having some trouble with a flower." said the little prince.
"Ah!" said the snake.
And they were both silent.
"Where are the men?" the little prince at last took up the conversation again.
"It is a little lonely in the desert.."
"It is also lonely among men." the snake said.
The little prince gazed at him for a long time.
"You are a funny animal." he said at last.
"You are no thicker than a finger..."
"But I am more powerful than the finger of a king." said the snake.
The little prince smiled.

어린왕자가 지구에 도착했을 때, 어떤 사람도 보이지 않아서 깜짝 놀랬다.

그는 이상한 행성에 온 것이 아닌지 두렵기 시작했다.

금색또아리.. 달빛처럼 생긴 어떤 것이 모래를 가로질러 반짝였다.
"Good evening." said the little prince courteously.
"안녕?" 어린왕자가 정중하게 말했다.
"Good evening." said the snake.
"안녕!" 뱀이 말했다.
"What planet is this on which I have come down?" asked the little prince.
"내가 지금 서 있는 여기는 어떤 행성이야?" 어린 왕자가 물었다.
"This is the Earth; this is Africa." the snake answered.
"지구야. 여기는 아프리카야." 어린왕자가 대답했다.
"Ah! Then there are no people on the Earth?"
"아! 지구에는 사람이 안사니?"
"This is the desert. There are no people in the desert. The Earth is large." said the snake.
"여기는 사막이거든. 사막에는 사람이 안 살지. 지구는 매우 크단다." 뱀이 말했다.
The little prince sat down on a stone, and raised his eyes toward the sky.
어린왕자는 돌 위에 앉았다. 그리고 눈을 들어 하늘을 보았다.
"I wonder." he said, "whether the stars are set alight in heaven so that one day each one of us may find his own again...
"내 생각에는" 그가 말했다. " 별이 반짝이는 것은 우리가 다시 그의 별을 찾을 수 있도록 그러는 것이 아닐까?"
Look at my planet. It is right there above us. But how far away it is!"
내 별을 봐. 바로 우리 위에 있어. 그런데. 참 멀구나.
"It is beautiful." the snake said. "What has brought you here?"
"참 아름답구나" 뱀이 말했다. "너는 여기 왜 왔니?
"I have been having some trouble with a flower." said the little prince.
"어떤 꽃하고 문제가 좀 있었어" 어린 왕자가 말했다.
"Ah!" said the snake.
"아!" 뱀이 대답했다.
And they were both silent.
그리고 그들은 둘다 조용했다.
"Where are the men?" the little prince at last took up the conversation again.
"사람들은 다들 어디있어?" 어린왕자가 마침내 다시 입을 열었다.
"It is a little lonely in the desert.."
"사막은 조금 외롭다."
"It is also lonely among men." the snake said.
"사람들 사이에 있어도 그래" 뱀이 말했다.
The little prince gazed at him for a long time.
어린왕자가 뱀을 물끄러미 바라보았다.
"You are a funny animal." he said at last.
"넌 참 재미있게 생긴 동물이구나" 어린 왕자가 마침내 말했다.
"You are no thicker than a finger..."
"손가락보다 굵지 않고.."
"But I am more powerful than the finger of a king." said the snake.
"하지만 나는 왕의 손가락보다 힘이 세지" 뱀이 말했다.
The little prince smiled.
어린 왕자가 미소지었다.
