The next planet was inhabited by a tippler.

This was a very short visit, but it plunged the little prince into deep dejection.

"What are you doing there?" he said to the tippler, whom he found settled down in silence before a collection of empty bottles and also a collection of full bottles.

"I am drinking." replied the tippler, with a lugubrious air.

"Why are you drinking?" demanded the little prince.

"So that I may forget." replied the tippler.

"Forget what?" inquired the little prince, who already was sorry for him.

"Forget that I am ashamed." the tippler confessed, hanging his head.

"Ashamed of what?" insisted the little prince, who wanted to help him.

"Ashamed of drinking!" The tippler brought his speech to an end, and shut himself up in an impregnable silence.

And the little prince went away, puzzled.

"The grown-ups are certainly very, very odd." he said to himself, as he continued on his journey.

이 별에는 잠시 머물렀지만, 어린왕자를 깊은 우울감에 빠지게 했다.

"여기서 뭐하세요?" 그가 술꾼에게 물었다 .

그는 빈 술병과 술이 가득 든 술병들 앞에 조용히 앉아 있었다.

 

"I am drinking." replied the tippler, with a lugubrious air.

"술 마시는 중이야." 술꾼은 애처로운 분위기로 이야기했다.

 

"Why are you drinking?" demanded the little prince.

"술을 왜 마셔요?" 어린왕자가 물었다.

 

"So that I may forget." replied the tippler.

"잊기 위해서..." 술꾼이 대답했다.

 

"Forget what?" inquired the little prince, who already was sorry for him.

"뭘 잊기 위해서요?" 어린 왕자가 물었다. 어린 왕자는 벌써 그가 불쌍해지기 시작했다.

 

"Forget that I am ashamed." the tippler confessed, hanging his head.

"부끄러운 것을 잊으려고..." 술꾼이, 머리를 감싸며 고백했다.

 

"Ashamed of what?" insisted the little prince, who wanted to help him.

"뭐가 부끄러운데요?" 어린왕자는 그를 돕고 싶었다. 

 

"Ashamed of drinking!" The tippler brought his speech to an end, and shut himself up in an impregnable silence.

"술을 마신다는 것!" 술꾼이 그렇게 말하고는 입을 꾹 닫았다.

 

And the little prince went away, puzzled.

"어린 왕자는 당황해 하며 가버렸다.

 

"The grown-ups are certainly very, very odd." he said to himself, as he continued on his journey.

"어른들은 진짜 아주 아주 이상해." 혼잣맗을 하며 다시 여행을 떠났다.
